Actually, it's about the same price for me to get to SOU or LGW on the train. Total saving doing a B2B starting LGW vs direct from LHR is £60 after balancing train, NatXpress, RFS fee etc (although ignoring the avios spent).
In which case, we're back to the same time vs risk vs money saved equation. Personally, I still wouldn't do this for a trivial net price difference when it adds so much risk.
