And your reliance on 261/2004 compensation to pay for the cost of missing your onward MCT-BKK flight doesn't take into account the possibility that it turns out to be a zero compensation delay.
Actually, it's about the same price for me to get to SOU or LGW on the train. Total saving doing a B2B starting LGW vs direct from LHR is £60 after balancing train, NatXpress, RFS fee etc (although ignoring the avios spent).
