Generally, in a moderated forum, the moderators can make a thread "sticky" or "unsticky". In the unmoderated forums, the FT IT gurus have made threads sticky on request. These threads are perceived to be ones of sufficient ongoing value that they should be visible to anyone reading the forum.
I am a moderator in Coupon Connection. There are threads which will likely always be at the top of the forum, such as the FAQ for the forum. There are other types of threads that are kept on top for awhile, and then their relevance diminishes.
I know of no way to not see the sticky threads at the top of any forum. However, if you believe they are no long of general relevance, you are always free to send a PM to the moderators for that forum.
