Hmmm. The usual print-at-home boarding pass - fairly new - is definitely on a white background. It’s a PDF that prints as an 8.5x11 sheet, contains some smart, customized info about airport cut-off times, and has score marks showing where to fold it.
It sounds like you printed the mobile BP (which, yes, is on a black background) ... not the print-at-home BP.
I recall you can have the mobile BP emailed to yourself (or just download it, if you’re doing mobile check-in) so you can save it to your mobile device. That comes through as a JPG file.
But the true “printed” BP - which spits out the full 8.5x11 PDF (w white background) - is a different option during the check-in process. And I think that’s only available if you do web check-in (i.e. on a PC, not on the mobile website or app).
