When I first joined FT, I was in the same boat. I didn't think that much would apply to me, not being a frequent business traveler, and that I would not have much to contribute. I joined anyway hoping that I could join in on the conversations and perhaps ask some questions, but the acronyms made it difficult at first. Then, after I learned them, I realized that the shorthand/acronyms exist because it gets tedious to type out some of the things that I would mention very often.

I still don't understand the majority of the shorthand on the Trick It / Negotiate It thread in the Mileage Run Discussion forum, but I've found the community here to be quite welcoming. I've also learned to appreciate the premium cabin experience, as well as learning the value of the experience. Before joining, I was someone who would balk at the notion of paying $600 for a premium cabin on a transcon, thinking that there was no way that it would be worth it. Now, I either buy premium cabin fares outright or buy upgrades when the price is right, because I know that I am getting my money's worth for the experience based on reports from other frequent flyers.
