You can choose not to believe me or the manager, but this just happened within the past couple days. The best practice is to have the other person on the line so all the information is correct. especially when making a reservation outside the US where the rules might be different.
Not a question of believing or not, just totally contrary to my experience.
Not clear to me how you wound up on the phone with the manager. I've always just called Marriott reservations.
