The last time I (well, a friend) was waitlisted with one of my vouchers, the booking, when checked online, showed up in a weird way. It showed two reservations on the same flight, in the same PNR, one in the original booking class and one in I class.When the upgrade went through, the old reservation disappeared and just the I class one remained. Maybe that's something you could check.
