Thanks everyone for all the information.

For clarification, the vacuum packs are the kind with a valve that is meant to be used with either a vacuum cleaner or a hand pump *edit* oops didn't see the amazon link above but those. How effective are the hand rolled ones vs the ones with the valves?

I think I'll have to use it even if it's not exactly convenient as even with the 34L Topas, I'm really tight on space since I travel with quite a bit of photography and electronic equipment as well as sketchbooks.

I'm quite particular with my pillows so "doubling up" won't really help unfortunately; I'm planning on bringing a king sized feather pillow from home as that seems to provide the best sleep for me.

About the security, how often do they make you remove the pillow from your bag for additional inspection?

Since someone brought up something about duvets and even though it wasn't addressed in my first post, I've always wondered but in a completely full J cabin, do they somehow stow additional duvets onboard available for request or just one per pax only?

I understand that this would be perfectly fine in J or F, but in the case of Y and PEY, is it better not to given how much space it'll take up?

Lol for the last post, I do travel with some stuffed toys occasionally but those go in my checked luggage if I'm not completely full!
