Arriving before the audit will grant you the elite qualifying night for the original date of arrival. Arriving after the audit will not.
More accurately, it will not "automatically" grant you the night credit. It requires a call/email to fix - I've had it happen numerous times. I've never been told I hadn't earned the night credit.
