The problem isn't your card, it's the point of sale system. If the card is noticed by the system but does not approve the transaction, the software is to blame.
Your card will work (if your card is contactless EMV, which AMEX cards are), in countries were contactless has been programmed correctly, unlike here where merchants are too lazy to deploy EMV contactless, if contactless at all.
