To add to the caution about tight schedules and departing islands to PPT, I've also seen ferries come in late to Moorea to take us to Tahiti, but up to an hour late due to mechanical problems, but we were okay since our flight departing PPT was later. It was the last ferry out and if they hadn't fixed the problem I'm not sure if we would have gotten off the island to make our flight in time. We always prepare a back up plan and always buy trip insurance, which we have made claims. Some people think their insurance from using a credit card for flights/hotels covers enough or that their health insurance or medicare will cover in other countries, then find out the hard way.
