Almost all of the features of Expedia's travel insurance through TravelGuard are already included with the Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits, like trip cancellation, trip interruption, and trip delay.

In many senses, the CSR benefits are actually more comprehensive and have far higher limits than what Expedia TravelGuard offers (like Accidental Death & Disability - $50,000 vs $1,000,000 or Emergency Evacuation - $15,000 vs $100,000).

On the upside for the Expedia TravelGuard policy, it waives the pre-existing condition exclusion. So if the trip cancellation or interruption is due to something that's arguably pre-existing (including your relatives' hospitalization or death changing your plans -- like your parent's kidney or your girlfriend's sister's heart), Chase could fight payment (but probably wouldn't), while TravelGuard would cover it.

Both policies are awful for serious medical emergency outside the US (CSR $2,500; Expedia TravelGuard $5,000), and neither covers change of school examination/test dates as a reason for cancellation/interruption.

So if your health insurance does not cover you overseas, then be sure to look into alternate foreign health insurance coverage.

And if you, a travel companion, or an immediate family member (traveling or not) have pre-existing conditions that might alter trip plans, or yours might possibly need overseas medical treatment, then immediately after making first payment for the trip, start shopping the price-comparison websites for comprehensive policies that cover both, as long as the policy is purchased within 10, 14, or 20 days of first payment for the travel plans.

On the whole, cardholders seem very satisfied with CSR's travel benefits, as you can see in this thread:

You can compare that various review websites that discuss TravelGuard, which is a more mixed picture.
