If you aren't willing to chance it, book MEL-SIN one way, and HKT-SIN-MEL since it's available, then book a separate SIN-HKT ticket. No stopover restrictions to worry of since you'll be on separate tickets.
ah I see so we wont get out of melbourne if the waitlist on the 2nd leg hasnt cleared.

i thought about your suggestion but that would mean spending more money or redeeming more points than I have to.
