I personally would not do it. My last trip the airport firefighters were on strike and numerous flights were cancelled. I read that this happens more often than one would expect. You asking is enough reason to not do it as it appears you already have some doubt. If you have trip insurance, and you can validate that this would be covered if you misconnect, go for it. I ended up with an extra night on Bora Bora, in the Presidential villa at the Conrad, and most of my night's stay was covered by trip insurance. So for me it was great that my flight was cancelled.
