My question is, how do I report this to UA? I am not looking for any compensation or anything like that, but I feel they need to know that there "could" be a case of food poisoning from one of their flights. I always abide by the rules from the movie, "Airplane," and I didn't have the fish! FYI, I was in Business.
thanks.
After an SFO-EWR flight last year, I got sick in the EWR bathroom shortly before I was scheduled to depart for MIA. Thinking / hoping it was a fluke, I flew to MIA and was miserable the entire flight, getting sick again as soon as we landed. I was in the middle of a mileage run (was supposed to get back on the same plane and fly MIA-EWR-SFO) but I was too ill to fly.
Long story short - When I finally got home, I emailed Customer Care with my timeline of events, and like OP stated, it was only meant to inform in case they received similar complaints. Unlike the typical reply from
[email protected], instead I received an email from a United employee's work email address, and her title was "Claims Analyst, Risk Management."
Her reply was in an attached PDF:
"Thank you for the opportunity to respond regarding the above captioned matter. We are very sorry to hear that
you became ill while traveling with United and that you believe the illness was due to food poisoning.
In this case, you stated you became ill after eating the cold roast beef and noodle salad served on the above
referenced flight.
According to our investigation, we have received no other complaints of food poisoning related to Flight #1262 on
December 01, 2017 regarding any of the food provided on this same flight. There were no problems noted in
transportation of the meals nor have we received any flight attendant reports concerning any problems with the
meal service on this flight.
We further note that you have provided no medical documentation to support your claim. This would include lab
results indicating a direct causal relationship between your illness and the food provided on Flight #1262 .
Given that there were no other reports of food poisoning regarding the above referenced flight, it is impossible to
pinpoint the exact origin of the bacteria, virus or parasitic agent which may or may not have caused your illness.
However, we have reported this matter to our Dining Services Department which will review this matter directly
with the caterer involved.
However, as you are a valued United customer and as a gesture of our goodwill, we would like to offer $250.00
cash to you. This offer is valid for 15 days from this date."
I ended up receiving a $250 check from their insurance company, which was appreciated, and totally unexpected. I used that to cover my hotel for the night when I stayed at MIA.
