Amenities expectations in North America and Asia

I'm based in Asia. Every time I stay at a hotel in the states, I ask myself this.

Walk into any branded hotel in Asia, it's not uncommon to find:

- Toothbrush / Toothpaste
- Body Wash
- Slippers
- Bathrobe
- Shaving kit
- Shower cap

and at luxury hotels
- Mouthwash
- Face wash
- Nail files

They are readily available in the room, so often that I would consider them basic amenities.
These do not exist in US hotels, even at luxury brands; unless you request them.

The most annoying thing I find is asking for slippers, you can't even take off your shoes until they arrive. Are travellers expected to bring their own amenities here? Do people still shower with a soap bar? Why provide shampoo but not body wash?

And there's this Continental Breakfast thing. Hotels in Asia are great at providing breakfast in the cafe or a mid-sized buffet at the lounge. There's no mini-breakfast offering. If I were a hotel owner in Asia, I would be upset US properties (where corporate is located and rules were setup) can get away by offering just cereal and fruits.

It may be a foolish thought and simply a cultural thing, wanted to know what you guys think.
