Wrong. Separate tickets is not a connection. If the QR flight is on time there is nothing to stop you trying to get BA to change your flight before you check your bags, but of you check your bags through to LHR without getting seats first you are just going to cause delays to BA's SOF-LHR whilst your bags are offloaded.
