As the problem flights were inbound from Italy, I wonder if it's something to do with the same technology problem that prevents e-tickets to certain Italian destinations, which means that the check-in systems at those stations can't handle them yet. If there's insufficient infrastructure to allow access to e-ticket information, it wouldn't surprise me if transmission of the FF posting data also gets screwed up.
