Son denied boarding by EVA last night

I am going to reply to this and bump the thread because this is still happening and I wish I had seen this thread before.

I have purchased tickets for my children on different Asian carriers over the past 10 years. They all have these rules but I have never had them enforced against me and mine until last night.

I purchased a ticket on the EVA website for my son. When he tried to check-in he was asked for the last 4 digits on my credit card. I was asleep at the time, wasn't able to be contacted, and the daughter traveling with him had to repurchase a ticket for him.

I called EVA this morning and was given their spiel about credit card fraud. Did I mention that I have an unusual last name and that the son has the same first name as me? Different middle name, though, but it's not like John Doe showed up with a ticket purchased on my credit card.

I asked EVA what I could do to prevent this in future and was told:

1) Don't use their website. Yes, really. I was told to use a 3rd party website such as Priceline and this wouldn't happen.
2) Get him his own credit card and make the purchase on that.
3) Show up at the check-in counter with him (not practical).

I like EVA but this was quite annoying. If the son had been alone and the sister wasn't able to repurchase a ticket for him, he would have been stranded at SFO overnight.

I would think EVA could have used more judgment, especially considering the near match of the name on the ticket and mine. However, lesson leaned, in case I should decide to purchase tickets for my children again on EVA. However, maybe I won't as this is just too much trouble.
