I was Ambassador 2017 but barely made Gold (and am Lifetime Gold anyway). I also got the "sorry" e-mail from my Ambassador.

My account still shows Platinum (and I have not linked with Marriott where I am lifetime Platinum). Does it take some activity to trigger the downgrade to display online/on the app?
