FYI I mostly fly AA (US-domestic), BA (TATL) and CX (TPAC and intra-Asia).
Cheers.
I had some success when I was transferring from AA to BAEC FF programs in changing from my BAEC number (entered at time of booking) to my AA number at the check in desk (long haul flight, I had already checked in online so was just a bag drop - not sure if that aspect is important). I didn't need the extra baggage allowance so never asked about that but it did give me lounge access with OWS from AA but credited Avios and TPs to my BAEC account. Only did this a couple of times ~2 years ago so not sure if this still works.
