I've got one that spans the transition (30/3 out; 2/4 back) and it's showing mileage earning (for Miles, Level Miles and XP). Does it show your ticket number in My Trip? I've noticed that this info can be slow to come across.
No experience with upgrading, as my long hauls are already booked into WBC and I'm not fussed about being in economy on short haul. Can't see why you shouldn't be able to upgrade though, if it's an 074 ticket. I can see the "Check your options for upgrades with Miles" button on one of my short haul trips booked via Amex Travel.
