I heard last night that it's an MMW scanner that seeks items blocking normal body emissions. Two different types were tested in Penn Station, a big spotlight-like thing and a detector in a rather large box. Good part: TSA is not going to be involved in day-to-day operations if these things are installed.

My thoughts: How is this going to stop a bad guy from setting off the explosives on his vest? If he's a suicide bomber, isn't he going to set it off as soon as he knows he's been detected?
