For a relatively short hop from YYZ over to the UK, I'd take this direct over a connection with AC's PY or J.
Some things sound good if you say them fast enough Arcanum. Now add in that I want to fly from a smaller regional airport (London, Ontario) to Toronto and then connect for the overseas flight. Let's assume for the sake of argument that I am willing to fly Air Transat Club Class. I then have a flight booked on Air Canada from London to Toronto which means I must pick up my bag; change terminals and check-in, go through security all over again. If I fly Air Canada from Toronto to Europe however, I check my bag right through in London, Ontario and go through security there and only there. It takes 5 minutes without exaggeration to check-in and 5 more to go through security at the London, Ontario airport. How is the hassle of changing in Toronto to be valued in the equation of what to do? And the same hassle on the return as well.
It is not just compare the Air Transat Club class flight from Toronto to an Air Canada flight from Toronto. Nor is it just the cost difference. Again, there is time and hassle as well to be considered. There are various factors that come into play when you start comparing things and you have to take
all the factors into consideration.
