Still a little slack on airport codes though!
My wife and I have been Silver for 5-6 years typically finishing the year with c1K points and in the program since the 90's.
However this year I was comfortably past the 1500 but had to let a big flight go at last minute resulting in total forfeit (3 hours before check in with MH). The balance now comes to 1495 as we rebooked the following day in Y and have more flights since. As of today 1495TP with a tier point collection year ending 08.03.
So I thought the flight from HKT to KUL in MH economy that I didn't receive the 5 points for last year have become critical as that would attain the magic 1500. On enquiry to both BA and MH it transpires I booked in Q (not that I had any option as it was just presented as economy non flex) do not award Avios or more importantly Tier Points. The phone agent understood my predicament and after being passed around a knowledgeable manager agreed that a flight around the block is just silly to attain 5 points so indicated that on occasions like this an ad-hoc 5 points can be awarded.
I now wait until tier point end in two weeks plus 72 hours apparently and cross my fingers as I only have his word it will be okay.......
Am I the alone, should I worry?
Firstly Welcome onboard, it seems like you have already been enjoying the ride and am pretty sure that official welcome is on the way.
As others have said, I probably would not risk it if your heart is set on obtaining gold. I think we've seen stories of BAEC renewing at the current tier when not enough TPs have been credited but don't think I have ever read of BA letting you off and upgrading a tier - maybe I am wrong, but my feeling is you've got no back up/recourse if things don't go in your favour. Book something cheap as suggested and enjoy the new benefits!
