It would be a great link between Eastern Canada and the West coast, making travel out there much easier. I know Westjet has a seasonal direct flight, but considering AC is the primary O and G carrier one would think that this route would be profitable.

YYC is not particularly a large hub for mainline and is smallest of the four hubs by a large margin. If you want to transit east of Montreal, you need to connect at YUL or YYZ. AC doesn't even have a year round flight to Halifax (seasonal, rouge).
