Two carriers are involved - BA (on an AA flight number) and AY. AA claim tag. Menzies aviation dealing with the claim, but can't find it anywhere. Of course as I'm not in one place for long it's difficult to get it forwarded if and when it turns up.

Is there anything I can do proactively to trace it, any hints or tips? I appreciate this isn't BA specific and expect the thread to be moved, but any rapid help appreciated.

I'm hoping it got stuck on the short connection in Helsinki, but a little concerned it might have needed to have been put through customs in LHR or HEL despite being checked through to (Schengen) Prague.

You mean IAD-LHR-HEL-PRG? If so and your baggage tag only has LHR HEL PRG on it, you would only have to clear customs at PRG. I am assuming you and your checked bag too aren’t targeted by the British government for an extraordinary search, for otherwise you’d likely get an escort of sorts at LHR for a real close examination.

If it was out of DCA (and not IAD) and your bag tag doesn’t include another airport on it than LHR HEL PRG, then something else went quite wrong at gate-area/plane-side check-in or otherwise. Does BA even fly any Embraers in/from/to the US for scheduled common carrier flights, they certainly don’t out of DCA? AA does fly out of DCA, BA does not fly out of DCA.
