I always check in online and only ever check bags on family holidays, so for my hand baggage only work trips:

NCL (most used): I aim to arrive at the car park 60 minutes before departure, its a 45 minute drive from home so I still have a bit of contingency if I leave 1 hour 45 minutes before departure.
MME (nearest): If getting the 6am flight, I would leave home at 5:15, it is a 15 minute drive from home. Plenty of time for a drink in the lounge before departure
ARN (most regular destination), I leave the office 1 hour before departure, walk down to the Arlanda Express, 20 minutes on the train to ARN, through security and straight to the gate.

This is the big advantage of smaller airports. I would probably plan on getting to LHR T5 an hour before departure for SH and 90 mins for LH. Fast-track makes a big difference so I wouldn't be as confident if I was travelling on a LCC in the middle of the school holidays.
