What time do you get to the airport?

Following on from other threads where people give their recommendations of what time to get the airport it has made me think about what I do and wondered people's thoughts on what I do! First off, context. I live in Wiltshire and get the coach to Heathrow, National Express or Megabus. Depending on the time of day the journey is usually between 1hr 35 and 2hrs. Of course these companies recommend allowing 3 hours and I do like to build in some contingency time but how much is too much? I'm usually in whY and checking luggage (will have done OLCI so only bag drop) so always aim to get to the airport at least 2 hours before the flight time. It's always T3 so only need to walk straight to the terminal. General thinking would be welcome but I also have a specific example for an upcoming flight.

12.20 flight out of LHR T3 on a Saturday. NE gets in at 10.20, Megabus 09.35. My travel companion would be happy with the NE but to me this feels like it's cutting it a bit fine and am inclined to the Megabus, they are both the same price. For this particular flight we are going to be HBO so am I being slightly on the paranoid side to be saying the earlier one?!

As I said, specific thoughts on this one would be good but also general thoughts. I go to Oz at least once a year and like to think of myself as a confident traveler but this getting to the airport thing has always caused me anxiety and I'm always there so early!
