Does anyone have any recent experience with this Yellow Fever requirement going to JHN via GRU. My partner and I are flying to JHN originating in Miami to GRU (10 hour connection) and on to JHN. We were originally going to take the day flight from MIA to GRU, but as that had a layover longer than 12 hours (were going to get a hotel) we changed our flight to the evening flight to GRU with the shorter connection, as we read that in transit passengers with connections longer than 12 hours would need the certificate coming from 'Brazil' (even though GRU is not in the affected area).

Neither one of us has had the vaccine. While I don't mind getting it, there currently is a severe shortage of this vaccine due to manufacturer's availability. I've made umpteen calls before finally finding a passport place that still has the vaccine, which I will get, ($300, but that's not the issue) although I don't like taking this unnecessarily due to side affects and risk, especially since we are only going to South Africa which is not deemed necessary. My partner on the other hand is on prednisone, and can not take the vaccine as it is a 'live' dosage and he could contract the disease. We've been on many sites such as CDC, WHO, etc, and saw he can get a medical waiver from his doctor for this requirement.

All said, if you read specifics on above sites, call South Africa Airlines etc, GRU appears to not need the vaccine, and especially if you are in transit to Brazil in general for less than 12 hours. My worry is having been to South Africa before (via London), the immigration/checkin staff etc can be very variable as far as acceptance of documents, luggage fees, weight etc, and I don't want any snags.

Anyone with recent experience transiting between GRU and JHN would be appreciated. We are also intra-Africa flying to HDS and back home from CPT. Thanks.
