Did you see others' posts? The closure is more likely caused by their attempt to get the Ritz Carlton card AF refunded by lowering the CL to below the threshold that a card issuer can charge the hefty AF of Ritz card.
We have no idea what the reason was. This CL lowering practice is more common than you think and has never resulted in such a shutdown. This is why we're asking OP for more information. OP's partner's 5/24 status at the time of the Ritz application is very relevant.
