I suggest taking a taxi from Pudong airport to hotel.
The maglev does not have the most convenient set up for getting into the city because of all the subway changes / steps climbed needed when w a suitcase or the frustration of dealing w a taxi after arriving at maglev station. The taxis stationed at the maglev station are notorious for not wanting to take guests if fare too low or hotel too close. Shanghai also for most part is not an easy walking city w luggage.
That said, the maglev is a fun experience... when you head back to the airport take a taxi to the maglev station and then take to airport. It ends up costing More probably than a taxi straight to airport but iT is a fun experience. I donthis for most of my guests.
as for getting around shanghai, the metro is cheap and fast and convenient... and can be overrun w people. I would not want to be on a metro carting around heavy suitcases. Take it when you and going to and fro during the day from r sure as sh traffic can be bad but not when toting heavy stuff
