This exactly what OP wrote:

If the "original offer" was on DL, it looks to me like the choice is either (a) take the offer in C+ and a 6-hour delay, or (b) take UA flight with the downgrade and save the six hours. I don't see where it says to fly the UA flight six hours later. Am I missing something.?
