Call me confused, but I don't follow why you wanted to book your paid ticket right away. If I understand:
1. You know what the flights will be if the trip happens.
2. If company decides to send you, you want both you and husband to go.
3. If company decides not to send you, you want neither you nor husband to go.
So why not just get husband's award ticket and wait? If the trip goes ahead and company buys your ticket last-minute, fine. Otherwise, you pay the fee to cancel and reinstate miles for husband's ticket.
Is the concern that the flights chosen for your husband may be sold out, or much more expensive than other flights the same day, by the time company books you? Do you and husband
have to be on the same flights as long as you get to the same destination?
