Just plug it into the router's ethernet port, create username/password, then install the app on a phone or laptop... seems pretty straight forward without having to deal with router settings?

Or is that not a good option?
The open question with something like that is does it handle going through your router, and finding your drive from elsewhere, automatically (though some service at WD and how it talks to your router -- presumably something called UPNP) or is there a lot of manual setup like port forwarding and DDNS? It looks like the former (which is good!) but you'd want to read the manuals to verify that as I don't know this product well enough to be sure.

The manuals appear to all be online at: https://www.wdc.com/products/persona.../my-cloud.html and $129 seems like a fair price (I'm a little surprised Costco doesn't have this; I've often found they have the best prices on external drives.)
