I might suggest that to avoid this shanda of internationally criminal proportions that you re-route to ATL SCL MDZ so that you will be in an international Transit that will provide you all the opulent splendor you require. Further, you will be on a much shorter connecting flight in the discomfort of a short haul South America flight. The couple of times that I have traveled to MDZ I have transited through SCL just to avoid the horrid conditions that you will experience.
The suggestion would only work if OP was traveling on Oneworld (Latam or AA). I doubt Latam even flies ATL-SCL. Since they are flying DL, and AR are part of Skyteam, the only possible route would be ATL-EZE-MDZ.
