As noted, two awards will be required for each one-way: North America to Asia 2, and Asia 2 to South Pacific. The upside of this is that you can have a stopover in Asia 2 (and it does not necessarily have to be at HKG) if desired.
Pardon me, but I believe the airport in question, CPT, is considered to be in Africa, and not South Pacific. So at present, to book using AA miles with the new CX flight, would entail US-Asia and Asia to Africa awards.
