If they'd done the sensible thing and made it a rail link connecting the airports and the city centres then it would be a different story.
I agree, I don't think the link will make the ferries obsolete - there will be a place for both, but expect the land link to be clogged with commercial traffic, and with car traffic that will slow immigration/customs processes. Frankly, I look forward to the ferry ride as a time to unwind for 50 minutes or so, and the customs formalities on either end keep getting better and better with advancements like e-channel.
