I have stayed at both Fairmonts. Other than the fact that these facilities reflect the quality of Fairmont's customer service and are both located in Kenya, these locations have little in common. Mount Kenya is a beautiful hotel that is about an hour away from a game preserve and the Masai Mara is located within one.

We used a suite upgrade at Mount Kenya and were provided with a roughly 1500 square foot signature suite with a fireplace. There is a wildlife sanctuary adjacent to the hotel which seeks to reintroduce orphaned or injured animals into their native environments that is worth a visit. We did visit a game preserve which would be quite impressive and memorable provided you see it before visiting the Masai Mara location as we did

At the Masai Mara, we used a room upgrade for a deluxe room. There is at least one double Fairmont room that is much larger than other accommodations. The food was very good and our guide and game drives were amazing. Since some packages include full board and game drives, the cost of the room portion after subtracting the cost of these items is very modest. When we stayed, there was a GRGD promotion for $99 which would have cost more than the advance purchase rate once the cost of food and game drives was added. There is a park fee which I believe is $82 per person.
