Be careful: I'm sure you booked "Nissan Maxima
or similar". In this case, you could get another sedan that doesn't come with GPS built-in. Also, I understand your frustration with built-in GPS not being added to the base level, but it's for several reasons:
1. Making (even 1 of a vehicle) without "basic" options, allows the manufacturer to advertise a lower price to draw you into the showroom. Then, it becomes a "oh, we don't have any of the $44,000 XTS, but we have this loaded one that would only be $25/month more." When we were looking for a Honda Pilot last year, we couldn't find a base level anywhere on the east coast (and no dealer wanted to order one for us), so all manufacturers do it.
2. Not many people pay as much attention to detail as most of the crowd here. They see "Oh, a Luxury car for $x/day, perfect" and book it. Then get in and realize it's not as nice as the Focus I had earlier this week (Focus with heated steering wheel?!?)
Also, with more and more people using GPS on their phones (and a system they trust) so I wouldn't be shocked if we see built-in GPS go the way of the tape deck (and soon to be CD player).
