Just wanted to pop in and give a quick review. I stayed here on points this past Presidents' Day weekend (Wed the 14th, checked out Monday the 19th). I have only Preferred Guest status with SPG but just inquired about paying to upgrade to a lanai room a few weeks ago and they said they would put the request in on my booking (not to pay but to just get the room). So I received the text message prior to check in asking how they could make my stay excellent. I said, "I requested the lanai room, that would make my stay excellent." I received my request, and those rooms, with the exception of maybe a suite, are the best rooms in the hotel. I'm guessing my Wed check in helped with securing the room, because others in the lanai rooms I talked to were Plats (and by Saturday the entire hotel was sold out). Felt like a VIP. It was really lovely and now I am spoiled from any other room in that hotel. It's too bad they don't allow you to book those rooms on the website, because I don't know how I'm ever going to stay here again unless I'm guaranteed a lanai room! The lanai rooms were recently renovated after Irma with what appears to be a vinyl or laminate plank that resembles hardwood, which is great because of the sand that gets tracked in from the outside. They still have that weird louvered door and window from the bathroom though. All in all a great stay. Also, I was only charged the $35 resort fee + tax, was expecting the $45 + tax so I was pleasantly surprised.
