On QF it's a separate class with dedicated FA's and some thought put into the product. On AA it is sold as a separate class, but almost no thought has been put into it by AA - the seats are several years behind the curve and the FA's are not trained for the class, nor are they assigned to W/PE separately from Y.
If someone wanted W/PE then I'd suggest QF on the A380. If they wanted J for US-to-Oz then AA via LAX, assuming the cost was close. Someone mentioned up thread 30-50% lower pricing for DFW-SYD compared to (DFW-)LAX-SYD. If that is true then I'd pretty happily put up with QF's rather tired J product for that sort of price differential. Obviously, YMMV.
