I luuuuuuuuv that clause. I had a YVR-RDU-MDE-YVR trip that I just finished. I changed it about 4 times as the AA award seats kept coming up. Sadly I never got what I wanted in the end but the trip was fine and only 1 change came up within the 60 days that I thought about, but decided just not to bother.
My only problems with the AS program really is the differing award charts and not being able to find everything online.
As far as the OP goes, if I'm understanding your post, you want 2 passengers on the same trip? Use the BA tool to search for Cathay space, or stick with the AS site to fin space and fly JAL, or Korean. They're all good carriers.
