I flew 1D on SFO-FRA-SFO recently. Excellent seat, other than the fact that I was really frustrated at not only not having a window, but not really being able to see out of one other than turning my head and looking back through 3A's window.

I'd concur that 3L is an excellent seat, and would likely be my go to if a bulkhead is not available. I'll always take one of the 8 bulkhead seats first though - the extra foot-room makes a difference to my sleeping experience.

The eye-mask and my own ear plugs mean that I'm not affected by galley light or noise once I decide to sleep, so even though 1A is definitely in the light path, so to speak, I'm happy enough (and happier if others are avoiding it).
