I ended up with two HHonors accounts, based on promos sent from my airlines with two slightly different versions of my name. Each account offered gold status after 4 stays in 3 months, so I did 4 stays on each account, earned my bonuses and redeemed some points off each account last year for a couple free nights.
Since then, due to some confusion in my wallet, I ended up using both accounts for various stays and now have enough points in each account, when combined, would give me one free night in a Cat 6.
I searched the HHonors site for the link to combine accounts, but could not find it. Does anyone have any recent experience combining two accounts of the same owner (not the mutual fund type), and a recommendation on the best way to go about this without HHonors turning around and saying "you shouldn't have had two accounts so we're closing one and confiscating the points". All the current points in both accounts were earned legitimately through stays, and are not leftover bonus points.
If you log in to your HHonors account, click onto to the tab for "MEMBER SERVICES" and then go to "Combine Multiple Accounts". Fill in all the information and submit it. That has worked in the past and your accounts appear merged after a few days, although I don't know if HHonors does this or not as regularly any more.
