I booked an XZAR Mystery Vehicle at NTL airport.

The rate quoted was A$36.50, while the cheapest vehicle otherwise was the Suzuki Swift for A$50 (which I had rented before and is perfectly driveable, but understandably a bit basic).

I received a Suzuki Vitara which had done 6000km so that was all right, although 1) items from a previous renter had been left in the vehicle and 2) the driver's door was unable to close properly without applying serious force, you really needed to slam it hard.

On return, somehow the Location Fee was doubled from the original quote, and ended up having to pay A$50.34. It was even higher at first, but managed to convince them to apply some additional "discounts". Since that was roughly the price I had been prepared to pay originally and didn't have time to let them try getting the price down further, I accepted it.

Also the Hertz website says the rate quoted is based on payment in cash, but a 1.35% credit card surcharge would be included. I offered to pay in cash to remove the CC surcharge but was informed that cash was not accepted. However, the "discount" applied removed the CC surcharge.

I shall add that in the past 1) the final invoice has always been completely accurate compared to the quote received on the website when booking, and 2) in 2015, I was able to pay in cash to avoid the CC surcharge but they seem to have a new policy to no longer accept cash, but none of the staff were working here in 2015 so they only knew that they had not accepted cash since they began their employment with Hertz.
