Having given up bear watching in British Columbia in September, my travel compass is swinging east to Massachusetts in consideration of a driving expedition out of Boston to Amherst for Emily Dickinson sites (
https://www.emilydickinsonmuseum.org/), then the Berkshires for Edith Wharton's The Mount (
https://www.edithwharton.org/), followed by a stop in Salem to visit friends, then back to Boston for two nights for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (
https://www.gardnermuseum.org/) and the Boston Athenaeum (
http://www.bostonathenaeum.org).
No luxury in Amherst and that's ok but welcome suggestions of comfortable accommodations. The Berkshires have Blantyre and Wheatleigh, the former gets best reviews. Any opinions? Open to other accommodations. In Boston we lean toward the Four Seasons where I stayed often on business trips but open to other options.
