I missed a bus stop once (driver issues) so ended up walking from the side of the road back and into the airport.

It’s certainly possible. But most airports are designed for vehicles so sidewalks may be limited or missing. For that reason doing it while dark could be dangerous.

I’m not an expert on YVR to judge accessibility by foot.
