What your examples all have in common is travel on Garuda. Maybe there are secondary award booking processes (as an employee posting to FT has documented for a few other carriers). If I were a Garuda exec and wanted Delta award travelers on my airline I would be annoyed. If I'm a Delta exec and recognize that Garuda redemptions are relatively less favorable to Delta vs. travel on China Eastern or KE, it's not on my priority list.

That's your choice as a consumer. Delta's Investor Day presentation in December '17 shows SkyMiles member counts climbing from 100 million in 2014 to 161 million in 2017. (See slide #13 .) They show 12% compounded annual growth in Delta Amex spend. How many of that 161 million will choose a program based on award redemptions within SE Asia? If you, CPMaverick, and a couple million of your friends dump Delta, Delta might change its behavior.
