I guess AC just doesn't like you?
This has happened to me quite a few times recently, mainly in YVR. I have asked the concierge about this specific policy and have been told that if you are confirmed in R, then you are entitled to be re-booked up to J. But, if they have to re-accommodate a number of passengers, R has lower priority compared to JCDZP (not sure about I).
I also had a corporate TA booked ticket that was upgraded to R and had a schedule change. The TA was able to re-book me in a revenue J class, which is consistent with AC's schedule change policy.
But again, the AC FT forum continues to illustrate consistent inconsistency in experiences.
